Dear
friend of the Journal,
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Earth Island Journal to suspend the summer print issue. It was the first time a print magazine didn’t go out in
our nearly 40-year history (Though we did publish a digital-only summer magazine).
We made an incredible comeback soon after thanks to the generous support of our readers. Donations to the Green Journalism Fund helped make these things keep running for the Journal this year as well, including:
- Printing 4 magazines covering a range of environmental issues through investigative deep-dives and insightful commentary.
- Publishing more than 200 articles on our website.
- Releasing 25 podcasts.
Additionally, in August we added Brian Calvert to our masthead as an associate editor. A 20-year veteran of journalism, Brian has reported on a host of environmental issues for decades. He is a former Ted Scripps Fellow in Environmental Journalism and led award-winning coverage as the editor-in-chief of High Country News, a magazine of the Western United States. Your support helps fund that kind of expertise, and it helps us expand the Journal’s reach.
With your continued support, we can keep on countering the polluter-sponsored PR noise machine and misinformation peddlers. Won’t you join us?

Every member’s contribution has a big impact. We ask for $15/month, but even $5/month helps us stay strong for the long haul. Every gift funds the investigative journalism and insightful commentary you expect from Earth Island Journal.
If we don’t tell these stories, who will?

Thank you for having our back.
