I grew up in Selma, Alabama – where I learned a lot about perseverance.
It was here that my grandfather was a hard-working sharecropper who never let his family go without.
It was here that the Foot Soldiers of the Civil Rights Movement marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, daring to confront a wall of Alabama State Troopers and centuries of oppression.
It was here that my mother became the first Black woman to ever serve on the Selma City Council.
And it was here that I became the first Black valedictorian at Selma High School, and the first Black woman to ever represent Alabama in Congress.
Being from Selma, I’m no stranger to the fight for justice, opportunity, and equality for all. And I can assure you our progress is – and has always been – dependent on perseverance.
That’s why I need your help. With the far-right Republican takeover of the House – we are facing a major setback and our progress is in jeopardy.
Whether we’ll be able to protect our right to vote, save reproductive freedom, or even properly fund public education systems will depend on the work we’re willing to put in to overcome the incoming GOP House Majority. My team and I are ready to persevere through the challenges ahead but we need your support. Will you chip in $25 now to help our campaign fight for progress? [[link removed]]
