When telecom companies get in the way of Black families’ ability to
connect, it’s not just cruel. It’s unacceptable.

Prisons and jails can charge incarcerated people and their families up to
$1 a minute for phone calls. There’s no reason for this other than for
prison telecom companies to line their shareholders’ pockets. [ As ]As we
ramp up our work to stop these predatory corporations from profiteering
from Black pain, one thing is clear: We need your help to ensure that
families stay connected in the new year. Will you pitch in $20 to help us
take this campaign nationwide?

In 2022, thanks to Color Of Change members like you, we made real progress
on winning prison phone justice. You signed petitions. You made calls. You
sent faxes and tweets to your congressional representatives. And it has
had an incredible impact.

Your efforts have helped to make it harder for prison telecom companies to
charge ridiculous rates. Color Of Change members in New York and
California have helped usher in bold legislation. Miami, FL and Dallas, TX
are two cities that are also taking action to keep families connected. In
Connecticut, your support has meant that phone calls to our friends and
families who are incarcerated are now free.

Your contribution will help us sustain our ongoing efforts to pass prison
phone justice legislation at the federal level. But we won't just wait for
Congress to take action — we'll also be expanding our state-by-state
advocacy campaigns to push lawmakers to make phone calls for incarcerated
people and their families free.
