Hey Volunteers,
This summer, we have the opportunity to take action to advance important legislation. The Clean Energy Jobs Act is a historic bill that would build upon the success of the 2016 Future Energy Jobs Act by transitioning Illinois to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050, decarbonizing the electric sector by 2030, reducing emissions from transportation, and creating jobs and economic opportunities, including for minority and disadvantaged communities. CEJA has gained support from numerous co-sponsors, but was not voted on this spring. We anticipate that it may come to a vote in the fall veto session, so we have a meaningful opportunity this summer to demonstrate public support for the bill.
On July 8 at 6 p.m., at a special Sierra Club Air and Energy meeting, we will present information about the bill and discuss ways to build momentum for the legislation this summer. In particular, we will talk about opportunities to collect petitions in key legislative districts. Collecting petitions in these important areas is a way to make a real difference and promote the bill. Please bring your calendar so that we can schedule upcoming petition events. We hope to see you there! Sierra Club will be coordinating this work but we would love for volunteers on the 350 listserv to participate!
