Hi John,

Did you know? California’s natural biodiversity is unparalleled. Landscapes span lush marine kelp beds to arid expanses of wilderness where bighorn sheep and desert tortoises roam. Wildlife traverse between Sierra Nevada’s glacial peaks to towering old-growth redwood forests. Distributed throughout these wonderous landscapes is one of California’s most magnificent inhabitants, the mountain lion.

Unfortunately, 30% of California wildlife species are at risk of extinction. Urban growth, highways and other development cut through natural landscapes, breaking apart wildlife's habitat and blocking the pathways of movement they need to survive. In certain areas, mountain lions have a greater than 99% chance of vanishing in the next 50 years because roads obstruct them from finding mates.

Wildlands Network secured commitments from the State of California to make improvements to highways that will protect wildlife like mountain lions. And we're developing a list of priority projects across the state that will make an immediate difference. Pairing on-the-ground research with advocacy and support for our agency partners, we will restore connectivity across California.

Our large-scale, holistic approach to conservation has made quite an impact ([link removed]) over the past 31 years—but this is just the beginning. Our mission to reconnect, restore and rewild North America is ambitious, and there’s much more to be done. Join us by making a gift ([link removed]) to ensure a lasting future for our natural world.
