Hi Jack,

While I’ve visited Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve many times, the awe still hasn’t worn off. The reserve’s magnificent ancient redwood grove feels straight out of a storybook, with towering giants gazing down over meandering streams and waves of green ferns.

Because this place is so special to me, I wanted to follow up on Sam’s email from a couple of weeks back about the League’s newest project: The Montgomery Woods Initiative. Through this initiative, we will increase access to the park – and protect a critical forest that shares a 1.25-mile border with the Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve.

Give by December 31st to make twice the impact for the Montgomery Woods Initiative – all gifts will be doubled up to $250,000, thanks to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation!

Right now, the League has a wonderful opportunity to protect Weger Ranch, the 3,862 property that borders Montgomery Woods, through a conservation easement. Under the easement the owners would retain property rights, but the land would be forever protected from subdivision, development, and aggressive logging.

Once the Montgomery Woods Initiative is complete, we will have assembled a conserved landscape of more than 11,500 acres in the upper reaches of the Big River watershed – a critical coastal watershed where coho, steelhead, and chinook salmon all spawn.

This project has the potential to safeguard one of the most beautiful redwood landscapes and set a standard for sustainable forestry into the future.

Will you help fulfill this incredible opportunity to protect beautiful Montgomery Woods? Give by year’s end to have your gift matched!

Thank you for continuing to do your part to protect the redwoods we all love.

Gratefully,

P.S. Don’t miss the chance for your gift to be matched dollar for dollar to the Montgomery Woods Initiative. Give by December 31 so that we can take the next steps to protect and restore this incredible coast redwood forest.
