John, this is a long(ish) email about billionaires. I know. But I’m hoping you’ll read it anyway.
It’s easy to make fun of billionaires. It’s harder to hold them accountable. But that’s what I’ve been doing — every day — and now, they’re firing back at me.
Last week, I called on Elon Musk and Twitter to take action.
Specifically, I called on the Biden Administration to investigate Musk’s company Neuralink, which reportedly engaged in animal cruelty to beat competitors in their research efforts. Scores of animals were subjected to painful and needless injuries and death.
Then, I called on Musk and Twitter to take action on hate speech running rampant on the platform. Slurs against Black people tripled. Slurs against women increased by 33 percent. Slurs against gay men increased by 58 percent. And slurs against Jewish people have increased by 61 percent.
Those are the facts.
Elon Musk … did not like that at all. And in a now-deleted tweet, responded in a truly sophomoric way:
At the same time, a different billionaire (or so he claims), in advance of being held accountable for his actions by the January 6 Committee and being referred for criminal prosecution, the twice-impeached failed president Donald Trump lashed out at me, too:
I’m not going to stop holding these guys accountable. But each time they attack me with lies and innuendo, I trend on Twitter (and not in a good way).
That’s why I’m asking you to help me respond to Trump and Elon. Right now.
Can you rush a contribution to our campaign to help respond to Trump and Elon’s attacks before they’re magnified even more by their legion of far-right social media trolls? If we don’t respond directly to these lies and refute them, they could take root and spread further.
