WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Friend –

As we head into the weekend, I wanted to provide a few updates on some of my work for Iowans and the latest from our nation’s capital:

Decisive Action Against the Iranian Regime

Last week, the U.S. military, at the direction of President Trump, successfully killed Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani, a known terrorist who orchestrated heinous and reckless actions, including the slaughter of Americans.

President Trump’s decisive action sent a clear, strong message to Iran: there are consequences for crossing a red line. As someone who’s worn our nation’s uniform, and served as a company commander in Iraq, I’m confident in the capabilities of our military and intelligence personnel, and I commend them for their ongoing efforts in the region.

I joined both Varney & Co. and Outnumbered Overtime to discuss my reactions to President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against the Iranian regime.

Working Across the Aisle to Tackle Sexual Misconduct in the Coast Guard

Recent reports have shown an uptick in sexual misconduct and harassment at the Coast Guard and its academy are alarming and unacceptable. We must do better for the Iowans, and all Americans, who choose to serve and protect our country.

This week, I teamed up with another member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, to introduce a bipartisan bill aimed at preventing sexual assault and retaliation in the United States Coast Guard.

Calling on Speaker Pelosi to Stop Playing Politics and to Let Us Get Back to Work for Iowans

When I was back home in Iowa over the holidays, I heard from Iowans about how they are fed up with impeachment—the political exercise that’s slowing Congress down from getting important things done, like passing the USMCA – a trade deal that will create over 175,000 jobs across this country.

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have been trying to impeach President Trump since day one, and now after voting on the articles, she’s stalling. This week, I joined my colleagues to introduce a resolution to set a 25 day timetable for Speaker Pelosi to send articles of impeachment to the Senate, so we can get back to the people’s business.

Thank You to All of Iowa’s Men and Women in Law Enforcement

Thursday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. I want to thank Iowa’s law enforcement professionals for everything they do to keep our great state safe.

As we go about our busy lives, it’s often easy to take for granted the sacrifices our law enforcement officials make day-in and day-out to keep our communities safe. If you haven’t yet, please take a moment to show just how much we appreciate their efforts to look after our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
