Dear John,
There really is nothing new under the sun. And cancel culture is no exception.
As you know, First Liberty has been the tip of the spear in the fight against cancel culture for over a decade.
So many of our brave clients are people of faith who have been taking a stand to this toxic ideology for many years—and Aaron and Melissa Klein are a harrowing example of grit and dedication to this fight.
We are now just weeks away from hearing whether the Supreme Court will take their case surrounding their small family-owned bakery in Oregon Sweet Cakes by Melissa.
When Aaron and Melissa Klein declined to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding, the Oregon government imposed a devastating financial penalty on them and suggested people like them needed “rehabilitation”—for simply running their family business according to their faith.
The Kleins were forced to close their shop and even endured violent death threats.
Aaron and Melissa have been fighting for almost a decade now. First Liberty has fought for them at the Oregon Court of Appeals and at the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court explicitly instructed the Oregon courts that government officials cannot treat religious Americans with blatant hostility. The Court directed the state court to determine whether Aaron and Melissa were treated with such hostility.
While the Oregon court confirmed that government officials acted with bias against the Klein’s faith, the court still sent their case back to the very same bureaucratic agency that showed anti-Christian bias for a do-over.
This isn’t right. Aaron and Melissa deserve better… They deserve justice.
Make sure the Kleins get the Sweet Justice they deserve at the Supreme Court this January »
No American should lose their business, their livelihood or their job for living out their faith.
That’s why First Liberty is taking this case back to the Supreme Court. And with your support, we will win for the Kleins—and for millions of faith-based business owners fighting cancel culture.
As with all of First Liberty’s clients, Aaron and Melissa will never receive a bill—which means we are only able fight and win this case at the Supreme Court with your generous support.
And now the Kleins’ case is back at the Supreme Court. We are asking them to help the Kleins and protect their rights. A decision about whether the Court will take this important case could come out as early as the first week in January.
This rapidly approaching deadline gives our expert legal team LESS THAN THREE WEEKS to present everything—legal briefs, arguments, facts and all the necessary supporting documentation—the Supreme Court needs to decide to take up this case.
With the stakes at an all-time high and the clock ticking, our attorneys are working diligently this Christmas season to make sure everything is razor-sharp for submission to the Court.
This is a huge opportunity, and I’m counting on your generous support to put us in the best possible position to take full advantage of it.
And there is no better time to give to First Liberty than right now.
Time is running out… help the Kleins fight and win TODAY
With this major Supreme Court case before us, we must replenish our Fighting Fund resources. Plus, our year-end $400,000 Challenge Grant maximizes your gift so you can actively fight against cancel culture with Aaron and Melissa.
Your support is the reason we can remain committed to reclaiming our First Freedom now more than ever. Your donation today will have a rippling effect on the freedom of future generations.
So prayerfully consider a donation of any amount. We have ground to make up and a $6.25 million goal to reach by Dec. 31st and we need your help to make this possible!
