[1]Cori Bush
John, I am so
proud to work for Cori.
Last week, while most members of Congress were preparing for the holiday
recess, Cori was still working with her legislative team to address the
needs of her constituents.
Every year, millions of teachers and families around the country struggle
to afford basic school supplies. That's why Cori along with
Representatives Jamaal Bowman and Jahana Hayes introduced the Access to
School Supplies Act of 2022.
The bill would provide free school supplies to students and teachers in
high-poverty schools through a $500 million federal pilot program with an
aim to maintain stable learning environments and improve student
achievement.
No student should be forced to come to school without the needed supplies
and no teacher should be left spending hundreds of dollars out of their
own salaries to supply their classrooms. With this legislation, we can
change this status quo.

Representatives to pass the Access to School Supplies Act now? It's time
to step up and demand change.

On average, families spend more than $860 and teachers spend around $750
each year to buy school supplies. Cori knows this struggle firsthand. As a
single parent of two, Cori remembers the financial strain and stress that
came with back-to-school shopping each fall.
Now, Cori's working to ensure no other parent, student, teacher,
librarian, or educator goes through that same experience.
We have the opportunity to pass legislation that will change the lives of
millions of people, but with Republicans set to control the House of
Representatives starting January 3, we must work together to pass this
legislation NOW. Meeting the needs of our nation’s students should not be
a partisan issue, but a practical one.
[ [link removed] ]Please, join Cori in calling for Congress to pass the Access to School
Supplies Act by adding your name to our petition today. By joining
together, we will ensure our voices cannot be overlooked.
