You are in my heart as we celebrate the winter holidays, touching on religious faith and the spirit of childhood. For some, these days are more secular than religious; for nearly all, they harken back to our innocent years, when we were full of expectation. As educators, most of us feel deeply that this season is dedicated to the children in our care.
I hope you’re able to slow down for a few days and catch up with your rest, your recreation, and the family and friends you cherish.
You have led through challenging times this year, and I applaud your successes and feel your frustrations. You have earned a respite that will help you do your best for the students you serve as we enter the new year.
As for your union, we’ve worked hard to recognize and support your hopes and needs. While it is never easy to get things done under normal circumstances, this year we are especially proud of the remarkable number of accomplishments the AFSA team has achieved.
The high point of our work was a recent meeting and conversation at the White House, in which AFSA leaders and members were able to discuss your issues with President Biden’s key education advisers. I will send more information to you about that gathering in January.
To you and yours, the most joyous of holidays and a successful 2023.
Be well, stay well.
