When I started the Kids in Need of Desks Fund (K.I.N.D.) in partnership with UNICEF USA 12 years ago, manufacturing desks for young learners in Malawi wasn't the easiest task. With local support, we found a way to build 30 desks for students. Since then, we’ve provided 310,000 desks to benefit more than 1.1 million children in Malawi. Now, we’ve added a scholarship program for girls to attend public high school, which isn’t free and has low graduation rates for girls in Malawi. |

Still, more than half of all students in Malawi do not have a desk or a chair. Instead they attempt to learn by sitting on the floor or on the ground. A simple desk can make all the difference to ensure that a child is comfortable and has the space they need to learn.
With a gift of $80 you can send a desk to help two to three children write, read and achieve their dreams in the classroom >> |
This partnership between MSNBC and UNICEF USA has made such a difference to help children in Malawi. Over the years, I’ve watched as students who've received support from K.I.ND. have pursued their dreams thanks to these desks as well as scholarships that cover the cost of tuition, uniforms and learning supplies.
You can even fund a year or more of a girl’s education by donating a K.I.N.D. scholarship.
Your gift today will go towards ensuring that children in Malawi receive desks and support to pursue their education. You can also dedicate your gift to someone in your life and send them a personal e-card with your gift. Make a tax-deductible gift here >>
Thank you for helping children,
