Dear friend of press freedom,

Accountability begins with knowledge.

With nearly 2,000 press freedom violations now documented in the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, this year’s complete redesign of the nonpartisan website allows even more intuitive searches of the database — highlighting trends that inform us on the state of press freedom and democracy.

Will you donate to Freedom of the Press Foundation to support this important project?

Help sustain the Tracker

Tracker reporters speak with journalists and newsmakers across the United States to document what’s happening in the field, like the one dozen journalists arrested so far this year. We’re listening — and cataloging — as news organizations fight costly legal battles, including subpoenas for confidential source materials.

“Reporters should be able to go get the news and to do investigative journalism without law enforcement breathing down their necks and then pressuring them for sources,” said Kevin Chapman, the attorney for North Dakota reporter Tom Simon.
Let journalists know you are on their side

The U.S. Press Freedom Tracker is the go-to source for:

  • Up-to-date and searchable data on press freedom aggressions in the U.S;
  • Accounts of arrests and assaults to journalists as told to our reporters;
  • In-depth original analysis on the evolving state of press freedom and highlighted trends.

We can’t keep this vital work going without you. The Tracker exists because of supporters like you who are willing to donate to sustain the project.

Thank you, as always, for your incredible support.

Best,
Kirstin McCudden
