FEC needs to reopen Twitter probe now that documents Musk released show company may have outright lied - According to the "Factual and Legal Analysis" report prepared by the FEC’s general counsel, the complaints alleged that Twitter made a "prohibited corporate in-kind contribution" to the Biden campaign. Federal law bans corporations from contributing "anything of value" to federal candidates. For example, if a corporation allowed a campaign free use of rental property it owned, that would be an illegal, in-kind corporate contribution. Heritage Expert: Hans von Spakovsky

Blaming consumers for inflation makes no sense—here’s the real culprit - The idea that consumers cause inflation does not even pass the smell test. Consumer preferences are constantly changing as the marketplace changes, with new innovations and a dynamic selection of products and services. This did not magically start when Biden was elected. No Precedent in Modern History for Outgoing House Majority Passing Omnibus Appropriations Bill in Lame-Duck Session - The precedent is clear. In modern American history, no Congress has passed an omnibus appropriations bill during a lame-duck session following a shift in power in the House. To do so this year would be a violation of congressional precedent and a finger in the eye to the millions of Americans who voted for new leadership in the House. Lame-duck omnibus would double down on stagflation The newly elected House is likely to be more fiscally conservative. The lame ducks of the current Congress should not shove even more reckless spending down taxpayers’ throats as they limp off into the sunset. If House Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps her promise, an omnibus would seriously aggravate the stagflation currently assaulting the nation. Republicans Can Curtail Government Spending Now - Republicans should do something else instead. They will soon have the unilateral power to cut more than $130 billion from the budget. To secure these savings, Senate Republicans need only refuse to waive 2010’s Statutory Pay-as-You-Go-Act, or Paygo. Federal spending is now running roughly $130 billion over legal expenditure caps. Under Paygo rules, if Congress doesn’t find offsetting savings to bring spending below the limits by January, automatic cuts are triggered, including a 4% reduction in Medicare provider payments. Air safety falls victim to Biden’s immigration disaster - Biden’s deliberate neglect of border enforcement also has massive costs for the whole country. It burdens border communities with thousands of indigent aliens left to fend on the streets. It requires cities such as New York and Washington, D.C., to find millions of dollars to provide shelter, medical care, and schools for foreigners. It siphons millions from the DHS and Federal Emergency Management Agency budgets to feed the nongovernmental organizations that aid and abet illegal immigration. It pulls Border Patrol off their prime duties of patrolling the border to interdict illegal crossers and drugs. Heritage Expert: Simon Hankinson

Republicans Can Thank The Federal Gov’s Bungled Census For Their Razon-Thin House Majority - According to the survey, the officially reported 2020 census results overcounted the population in eight states: Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Utah.  It undercounted the population in six states: Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. All but one of the overcounted states were blue states, and all but one of the undercounted states were red states. There’s One Thing Picking Americans’ Pockets This Christmas—Biden’s Inflation  For the average family, prices have risen so much faster than wages since Biden became president that it is as if they have received an annual pay cut of $5,800 — but that’s just the average. If you’re trying to buy a median priced home today, compared to when Biden took office, it will cost you 84% more, far higher than the official 7.1% inflation rate. One slightly whimsical alternative measure of inflation is the increased cost of the items in the 12 days of Christmas carol. Buying those items for your true love this year will cost 10.5% more than last Christmas. Heritage Expert: EJ Antoni

South Dakota Health Secretary Out of a Job After Noem Discovers Transgender Group’s Contract - Noem terminated the contract after The Daily Signal reached out with questions about a “Gender Identity Summit” that the state’s largest employer, Sanford Health, will host next month with The Transformation Project. The project celebrates controversial medical interventions for minors and hosts events in which people ritually “burn” their “old name or pronouns.” Heritage Expert: Tyler O’Neil
