Good morning! While he isn’t up for re-election until 2026, today’s One Click Survey asks your thoughts about U.S. Senator John Cornyn. Here is the Texas Minute for Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.
El Paso Declares Emergency
- Given the worsening border situation, El Paso Mayor Oscar Lesser has declared a state of emergency in his city. Sydnie Henry has the details.
- Lesser’s order was issued in anticipation of Title 42 ending this week.
- Title 42—a common reference to the March 2020 pandemic health order the Trump administration issued to quickly expel illegal border-crossers—is set to end tomorrow, after federal courts ruled in favor of the Biden administration’s attempt to cancel the policy.
- Late on Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an administrative order keeping Title 42 in force while it considers the matter. The court ordered the Biden administration to respond by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
- According to the U.S. Border Patrol, the El Paso sector of the border is already seeing more than 2,000 illegals crossing daily, an increase of 280 percent from the same time last year.
- “The Biden Administration has no intention of actually enforcing our immigration laws,” said Chris Russo, president of Texans for Strong Borders. “With the end of Title 42 expulsions on Wednesday, this crisis is about to blow wide open. Our broken records for illegal border crossings over the last year will look modest by comparison.”
- The invasion will continue until Texans make it stop…
MILLER: This Land Is Our Land … Not Communist China’s!
- In a new commentary, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller explains why the Lone Star State must move quickly to protect land from the Communist Chinese government.
- “Our land is our heritage and our security. You don’t sell a gun to a psychopath, and you don’t sell your land to people who want to dominate and destroy you,” writes Miller. “Texas must ban land sales to any individual or organization associated with the evil and ill-intentioned Chinese Communist Party.”
Starr County Employee Charged for Human Smuggling
An employee of the Starr County district attorney’s office was arrested and charged by federal authorities with conspiracy to smuggle humans into the country, transporting them to Houston along with two other charged individuals. As David Vasquez reports, the employee allegedly used a Starr County vehicle to smuggle the aliens. - Bernice Annette Garza, who worked as the county’s “crime victims coordinator,” is
alleged to have admitted to participating in more than 40 human smuggling events since June. She has since been fired from the district attorney’s office.
Garza would allegedly drive the aliens in a Starr County vehicle past the Hebbronville checkpoint, where she would pass the job on to two other individuals, Juan Antonio Charles and Magaly Rosa. Charles and Rosa would then drive the aliens to Houston in the county vehicle. Rosa alleged that Garza gave her the county vehicle and a DA badge to display, and the aliens were instructed to portray themselves as crime victims. In return, Rosa stated she would receive a payment of $3,000.
Undercover Reporter Reveals Shocking ‘Family-friendly’ Drag Show
- An “all-ages” drag show featured countless scenes with male performers simulating sex, often while wearing what can only be described as anatomically correct—though comically proportioned—“nude” outfits. In attendance was undercover reporter Tayler Hansen, who was there on behalf of Texas Family Project. He recorded large portions of the show, which he described as “blatantly sexualized… [and] meant to groom children.”
- Soli Rice details the findings. CAUTION: While Texas Scorecard has gone to great lengths to remove the reporting’s salacious details, some readers may nonetheless find this article and embedded links offensive or disturbing.
Today In HistoryOn Dec. 20, 1835, the people of Goliad declared independence from Mexico.
“If you're looking for someone to go to Washington, to go along to get along, to agree with the career politicians in both parties who get in bed with the lobbyists and special interests, then I ain't your guy.”
Number of days since John Cornyn was first sworn into the U.S. Senate on Dec. 2, 2002. Cornyn has held public office in Texas for 38 years, since first being elected as a Bexar County district court judge in 1984.

ONE CLICK SURVEYLast week, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said he refuses to call the violence and worsening situation at the southern border “an invasion.” He said he prefers to call it a humanitarian crisis. John Cornyn will next be on the ballot in 2026. If that GOP primary election were held today, though, would you vote for or against the re-election of U.S. Sen. John Cornyn?
