2024 is going to be a huge year in American politics, with the House, Senate, and even the White House on the line. We need to bring transparency to online political advertising to protect our democracy. And today, I have some good news to share:
Last week, I reintroduced the Honest Ads Act in the House. This bipartisan legislation will work to prevent foreign interference in future elections — something every American should be able to get behind! And it will improve the transparency of online political advertisements.
At a time when threats to our democracy are clearer than ever before, we need to bring transparency to our campaign finance system and take action to prevent foreign interference in our elections. The American people have a right to know who is paying for the online political ads they’re seeing.
This legislation is vital, team, and I'm working to make sure it becomes law. To sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Honest Ads Act, please add your name right away.
There are disclosure requirements for TV and radio ads, but no such requirements exist for online ads. This creates a massive loophole that can lead to foreign interests using the internet to attack our democracy. We should never let that happen. The Honest Ads Act will stop bad actors from using dark money through online ads to influence our democracy.
