Today, the January 6 Committee referred former President Donald Trump to the Department of Justice on four criminal charges.

I. Obstruction of an Official Proceeding
II. Conspiracy to Defraud the U.S.
III. Conspiracy to Make a False Statement
IV. “Incite,” “Assist,” or “Aid or Comfort” an Insurrection

With the committee’s referral to the Department of Justice, this is a critical first step in the process of holding former President Trump and the other leaders of the January 6 insurrection accountable for their alleged attempt to overthrow our democracy.
