Dear John,

Last week, MAP hosted our 5th annual Rising Star Awards to recognize several incredible young state lawmakers who are bridging divides in their legislatures.

The award recipients — Rep. Jeremy Gray (D-AL), Rep. Aaron Pilkington (R-AR), and the Oklahoma Future Caucus (Sens. Carrie Hicks and John Michael Montgomery, and Reps. Ajay Pittman, Judd Strom, and Daniel Pae) — represent the promise and the impact of MAP's work.

They've led bipartisan legislation on issues including criminal justice reform, food insecurity, and healthcare. They've led peer-to-peer skill sharing sessions, helping to build leadership capacity among other young lawmakers in the MAP network. And they've shown up, day in and day out, to build the trust and relationships that power effective governance.

You can watch the award ceremony on our YouTube channel. Legislators shared their reflections on why it’s crucial to work together across lines of difference, including this comment from a 2022 awardee:

“We’re better than where we were fifty years ago, and we’re going to be in a better place fifty years from today because of the people in this room. I’m proud to be a part of Millennial Action Project and honored to receive this recognition. The future depends on the success of these efforts that support leaders who may differ in ideology but work hard to find common ground to solve the issues that impact us all.” – Rep. Aaron Pilkington

You can help build the movement and grow MAP’s work with legislators across the nation. Together, we can create more opportunities for true collaboration in our growing network of state and congressional legislators. Let’s continue to move the needle!
