Dear Comrade,
Don’t forget that Wednesday (12/21) is our last meeting of the year! We will be at the Downtown Akron Public library at 6pm in meeting room one! You can attend in person or online!
Thank you to everyone who supported our 2nd annual Winter Solidarity Blast by coming out in the snow or donating online! We saw some new faces and some faces that we haven’t seen in a while. Thank you to Heather and Becky for planning a great time. You can still contribute to the fund, and we will reveal the total raised at our December Meeting on Wednesday!
On January 14, to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. and local labor history, we are taking a field trip to the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered by our neoliberal society as a peaceful civil rights leader, but his politics were deeply rooted in the labor movement and class struggle. He was assassinated while visiting Memphis in strike solidarity. His full legacy should be honored by socialists, and we should recognize the essential contributions of people of color to the labor movement historically and currently. We will coordinate carpools and travel closer to the event.
Akron City Council is currently taking a break until January 9th, and we are waiting to hear what happens next with the White Pond sale. It is possible that the city needed a two-thirds majority to sell this land, which they did not have with the 7-6 vote. The Akron Beacon Journal has featured the story a few times in the last week.
Solidarity!
