Before we close the books on 2022, we’re looking back on our biggest campaigns and all the incredible work we did together this year.
We covered our Medicare for All legislative efforts and our CVS campaign — and today, we’re looking back on what we achieved in the Patients Over Profits campaign.
Together, here’s just some of what we accomplished in 2022 to grow the number of elected officials and candidates who have pledged to reject any money from the corporate health care industry:
In June, we relaunched the Patients Over Profits pledge on a strategy call with over 500 people and set a goal of reaching 100 signers by the November midterm election.
We didn’t quite hit our goal, but we’ve reached a total of 70 signers on the pledge, which is huge! You can see a full list of the current signers here.
We had over 1,100 people sign up to volunteer on this campaign over the last several months — and we want to send them a HUGE thank you!
This fall, volunteers joined monthly organizing calls to share tips and best practices with one another about what was working best in their communities. We even recorded and shared video tutorials of the best tactics. In October, we launched a special team with a few volunteers who stepped up even further to help out.
In particular, we want to lift up and congratulate a few key volunteer leaders that made the biggest contribution to this campaign:
Candidates and elected officials holding signed pledges.
We know that combatting corporate money in politics is key to passing Medicare for All. For decades, corporate-lobbying groups have tried to stop health care reform by buying off our politicians with millions of dollars in campaign contributions and lobbying.
But we can force our politicians and elected officials to choose a side by signing the pledge to reject campaign contributions from the corporate health care industry.
We plan to make this a major focus of our organizing in 2023, so stay tuned for lots more to come.
Thank you for being part of this movement calling for health care justice.
