We have a far-right Supreme Court that eagerly overturned Roe v. Wade and has twisted itself into pretzels to deliver for Republican interests. I have followed the money to figure out how we got into this mess, and my work has taken me into some of the darkest corners of politics.
Even prior to the Supreme Court steamrolling precedent to take away abortion rights, I was on a mission to unmask the covert operation of the right-wing billionaires and corporations spending millions to capture our democracy and erode the integrity of our Supreme Court from the shadows.
As MSNBC’s Joy Reid recently put it, “Sheldon Whitehouse has been ringing the alarm bells for years over not just the actions of this Supreme Court, but the right-wing forces that have funded the dark money to get some of these justices on the bench.”
Here's what I've found: secret donors have massively grown their influence over the highest court in the land by spending big money in confirmation battles for justices, lobbying the Court through briefs, and working to gain access to the justices through personal hospitality and gifts, among other avenues.
We need to build more accountability and transparency around the Supreme Court, and we need to shine a light on right-wing dark money influencers. In order to keep up this work, we need to hold this Senate seat and maintain the majority in the Senate.
