Great new non-fiction reads hitting the shelves
Tracy Borman, Henry VIII and the Men Who Made Him. Henry's relationships with the men who surrounded him reveal much about his beliefs, behaviour, and character. In this fascinating and often surprising biography, Tracy Borman reveals Henry's personality in all its multi-faceted, contradictory glory.
Shaun Bythell, Confessions of a Bookseller. Shaun is the owner of The Bookshop in Wigtown, and here he reveals the joys and frustrations of a life lived in books. Confessions of a Bookseller reunites readers with the well-loved characters from The Diary of a Bookseller (soon to be a major TV series).
Dave Goulson, The Garden Jungle or Gardening to Save the Planet. Dave explains how our lives and ultimately the fate of humankind are inextricably intertwined with that of earwigs, bees, lacewings and hoverflies, unappreciated heroes of the natural world.
Duncan Hamilton, The Great Romantic. Award-winning author Duncan Hamilton demonstrates how Neville Cardus changed sports journalism forever. While popularising cricket, he became a star in his own right with exquisite phrase-making, disdain for statistics and a penchant for literary and musical allusions.
Maggie Hartley, Please Don’t Take My Sisters. 3-year-old Lexie, 5-year-old Amelie and 13-year-old Leo come to Maggie after Leo confesses to a teacher that his mother's addiction problems has left him as the sole carer to his younger sisters. Maggie welcomes the three children into her home, and is touched by the gentle care Leo shows to the two little girls. When Social Services begin to look at adoptive families for the children, Maggie is horrified when they suggest that the two girls will have a much better chance of being adopted without their damaged older brother.
