Friend,

When Twitter CEO Elon Musk suspended the accounts of journalists who had
reported on him critically, it sparked a major public outcry, and the
reporters' accounts were quickly restored.

But when it comes to the threat posed to independent journalism by Big
Tech, these Twitter bans were just the tip of the iceberg.

In the decades since Common Dreams launched as a progressive nonprofit
news organization, we've seen a tiny handful of giant corporations
take ever more control over what we see and read online. And these
companies have made it harder and harder for new readers to find Common
Dreams, by tweaking their algorithms in ways that deprioritize our
content in search results, social media, and news feeds.

Fewer readers mean fewer donors-at a time when our progressive
nonprofit journalism is needed more than ever, as the climate emergency
accelerates, inequality soars, and democracy is under threat around the
world.

With progressive journalism under attack by Big Tech tycoons like Elon
Musk, we're asking you, as a Common Dreams reader, to help us reach
our critical End-of-Year Campaign fundraising goal.
