Over these eight days of Chanukah, while we as Progressive Zionists face challenges ahead of us both in Israel and the United States, let us remember that the light of the Chanukah candles gives us hope and strength to banish the darkness.
Let us be the shamash—the activist—that can ignite a call to action:
May it strengthen our community as we remind those in the next Israeli government that True Zionism does not support racism, homophobia, or misogyny. Zionism strives for democracy, equality, and pluralism.
May it expand our engagement with the American left, explaining how we can criticize Israel while upholding Israel’s right to exist.
May it inspire us to push back against those in our American Jewish community that try to silence us.
While the work is difficult, may it renew our commitment to Tikkun Olam and remind others that disengagement from our values for Israel and the world is never an option.
Wishing you and your family a Chanukah filled with illumination and love to inspire all of our labor in the months to come.
