The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) would change that, which is why Equality Now is working in coalition to push for the passage of the ERA.  
 

We believe that achieving legal equality is the first step towards full gender equality, and it’s urgent that we act now. Equality Now is one of the few international organizations working to advance the Equal Rights Amendment, and nearly 60% of the discriminatory laws we’ve focused on internationally since 1999 have been fully or partially reformed.
