Dear Friends, Today I am pleased to announce the latest short film release in the NRCAT series Humans Out of Solitary, a thought-provoking interview with Ms. Nafeesah Goldsmith. Ms. Goldsmith is the Senior Criminal Legal Fellow at Salvation and Social Justice, co-chair of New Jersey Prison Justice Watch (NJPJW), and a member of the NRCAT U.S. Prisons Advisory Council. Make a donation today to support NRCAT's work in 2023 As Ms. Goldsmith states in her interview, for change to happen, “You have to have the people to tell the story.” Indeed, the stories and testimony in legislative proceedings of solitary survivors in New Jersey led the Garden State to make history in 2019 as the first state to enact legislation to end prolonged solitary confinement. Since then, New York (2021) and Connecticut (2022) have also ended prolonged solitary in their states legislatively. The brave testimony of solitary survivors like Ms. Goldsmith is ending prolonged solitary confinement in prisons, jails and detention centers across the U.S. I invite you to watch and share this latest short film release from NRCAT’s Humans Out of Solitary. Your donation today to our year-end challenge match will expand NRCAT’s ability to support the campaign leadership of solitary survivors whose stories and experience are changing policies and transforming the future. Thanks to generous donors, your donation today will be matched: $25 becomes $50, $50 becomes $100, $500 becomes $1,000. In gratitude for your support, Rev. Ron Stief Executive Director PS: In addition to making a contribution to help NRCAT share our Humans Out of Solitary video series, you can share the link in a newsletter or on Facebook or Twitter or other platforms. |
