While many in our government today may deny it, you know that the United States was founded as a secular nation - one that should enact policies based on evidence, not beliefs, one that ensures freedom and equality for people of all faiths and none. For nearly 250 years we’ve understood that the separation of government and religion is a central pillar of our democracy. Today, our country faces threats like we have not seen before from Christian nationals, and even our own Supreme Court which the President now describes as “more of an advocacy group.”

Attacks on our rights will continue at the Capitol, in state houses, and in the courts. Every day there are more examples of officials using ‘religion’ as an excuse to discriminate. The Secular Coalition for America will continue to ensure the separation of government and religion and that the rights of the nonreligious are not taken away. Our collective voices make us stronger. You are a critical part of that.

For 20 years, the Secular Coalition for America (SCA) has brought together a coalition of people and organizations to protect the rights of nonreligious Americans and to strengthen the separation of government and religion in our laws and policies. The coalition now consists of 20 large and small organizations that support religion-government separation. We use our collective voice to amplify our impact on elected officials. SCA is the leader of the lobbying efforts of the secular community.

Most organizations that make up SCA are 501(c)(3) nonprofits. That is an IRS designation that limits their ability to lobby and do advocacy work. As a 501(c)(4) organization, the Secular Coalition for America can do unlimited lobbying at the federal and state levels.

You know how important our work is and we value your continued support. If you already donated this year, we really appreciate it. Please consider making another generous contribution to our work before the year ends. Thank you for your support of our mission.

Wishing you a happy holiday season and a terrific 2023!

Steven Emmert
Executive Director
