Friend,
There’s a lot going on with student debt relief in the country, and we’re here to walk you through it.
As we’re sure you know, a few months ago, President Biden announced he’d be taking action to forgive up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt for borrowers.
Since then, Republicans across the country have schemed to stop President Biden from delivering this promise, ultimately leading all the way up to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court will hear arguments on President Biden’s student debt forgiveness program in February. While we wait, the Supreme Court has let the program remain blocked.
This means that while the government has approved over 16 million applications for student debt cancellation, no debt has actually been canceled yet.
This won’t stop our fight. Our generation deserves a future where we can live without the burden of student debt, and we’ll keep fighting until that happens. Volunteer with us now to see this through: [link removed]
Thankfully, while we wait for a decision from the Supreme Court, President Biden has once again extended the student loan payment pause until 60 days after the litigation is resolved or to August 29, 2023 -- whichever is earlier.
Needless to say, all of the progress we’ve made on the student debt crisis wouldn’t have been possible without youth-led activism across the country.
We’ve got to keep that going. No matter what challenges Republicans or the Supreme Court throws at us, we’re ready to fight for a debt-free future. Will you join us?
