From the leadership
Prof Otavio Berwanger, Executive Director, The George Institute UK
It’s been a very busy year for The George Institute, marked by major milestones as well as new beginnings. I am honoured and excited to join the Institute as the UK’s Executive Director, at this crucial juncture as we join hands with partners across the globe to deliver our mission of improving the lives of millions worldwide.
The George Institute UK renewed its partnership with Imperial College London, building on a commitment that began in 2020. We celebrated this with a fanfare in November, showcasing the vision and priorities of a collaboration between two world-class centres of scientific excellence.
We also celebrated the launch of the NIHR-funded Global Research Centre to combat non-communicable diseases and environmental change, a partnership led by Imperial and The George Institute India.
But perhaps one of the most exciting changes is our new global leadership, with Prof Anushka Patel, Chief Scientist and Vice-Principal Director, taking over as Chief Executive Officer of the Institute from January 2023. We’re all looking forward to the next phase of achievements and milestones at The George Institute under Anushka’s leadership.
We hope you enjoy reading more about these milestones and some highlights of our work across our pillars of better care, better treatments and healthier societies.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
