John,
On Wednesday, Senate Republicans blocked the passage of the CROWN Act, my bill to end race-based hair discrimination.
For decades, Black people, especially Black women, have been penalized at school and in the workplace for wearing natural hair styles deemed "unprofessional” and are 1.5 times more likely to be sent home from work because of their hair.
That's why I held the line alongside my colleagues, Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Gwen Moore, to pass the CROWN Act in the House — but now we’re facing obstruction in the Senate.
John, I am disappointed that Republicans continue to oppose our efforts to build a country where every person can exist as their authentic self, but our fight is far from over.
Can I count on you to support our efforts to pass the CROWN Act? Let’s show Republicans that we can overcome whatever obstacles stand in our way toward ending hair discrimination.
