Hi friend, my name is Michelle. I’m a student from Maryland. I’m a UWDA leader. And I’m undocumented.
After waiting years to apply for DACA — years full of attacks on the program waged by anti-immigrant Republicans like Trump which culminated in victory at the Supreme Court — I thought it was finally my turn to get a work permit and be protected from deportation.
I thought it would change my life and my family’s future.
But my application was never processed. When Judge Hanen ruled against DACA last summer, the DACA application process came to a halt.
And after another ruling against DACA from a higher federal court in October, my application remains on hold as the decision on the future of the program goes back to Judge Hanen’s court — the same court that so cruelly shut down DACA just a year ago.
Enough is enough. No more temporary solutions. No more being put on hold.
That’s why our movement has taken our fight to Congress, demanding that our leaders deliver the pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and immigrant youth that we need and deserve before the year ends.
If you’re able, will you add a donation of $10 or more to fuel United We Dream Action’s fight for permanent protections? We’re closing in on our $20,000 end-of-year goal to fully fund our advocacy efforts and win our demands.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
My experience is unique, but my demands are no different from the 80,000 other immigrant youth waiting for their DACA application to be processed, the hundreds of thousands of current DACA recipients, and the millions more undocumented people who aren’t even eligible for DACA.
Thank you for letting me share my story.
Michelle, United We Dream Action
