John, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, North Carolina has become a critical haven for abortion access in the South.

That’s thanks in large part to our pro-choice Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who just last year vetoed an attempt by the North Carolina GOP to restrict abortion access.

But there’s an urgent new problem: For the first time in four years, anti-abortion Republicans have a legitimate shot at overriding Governor Cooper’s veto and restricting abortion rights for North Carolinians and our neighbors here in the South who depend on our medical services.

If North Carolina Republicans can convince just a couple of Democrats in the NC House to vote with them, they will be able to override his veto with a 2/3 supermajority and pass whatever cruel anti-choice legislation they want – including a potential 6 week ban that would essentially OUTLAW abortion before many people even know they’re pregnant.

I underwent fertility treatments for over a year before becoming pregnant with my beautiful daughter, Aaliyah.

During that time, I suffered an ectopic pregnancy and had to have an abortion to save my life.

If Republicans had gotten their way sooner, I might not be here to fight against their anti-abortion attacks. I am here today because of my ability to CHOOSE what I needed to do with my body – and I am going to fight as hard as I can to safeguard that CHOICE for others.

The right to choose should not be in the hands of our government officials, but rather our own. I need you with me to guarantee we keep control of our own bodies.
