On this International Migrants Day, we’re thinking about the millions of children who are on the move around the world.
Some are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict, poverty or climate change while others leave in the hope of finding a better life. Far too many encounter danger, detention, discrimination and a lack of protection on their journeys and at their destinations.
These challenges facing children are not only unacceptable — they are also preventable. UNICEF is working to protect children’s rights around the world. Earlier this year, our community advocated for action to end the Migrant Protection Protocols, which restricted access to asylum for migrant children and families at the southern U.S. border. There’s still more to do when it comes to protecting migrant children and undocumented youth in the U.S.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy temporarily protects young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children from deportation — but, if DACA is rescinded, families may be separated. Only legislation can provide long-term protection.
Join us in urging the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act, legislation that would provide undocumented people and families who have invested their futures in the U.S. with a pathway to citizenship >>
Supporters like you help UNICEF protect migrant children around the world. Whether it’s providing humanitarian relief in refugee camps, offering protection at Child-Friendly Spaces or addressing the specific needs of migrant and displaced children — UNICEF is there for every child.
Take a moment today to think about the lives of migrant children and channel your compassion into action. Ask your Senators to protect undocumented people who have invested their futures in the U.S. with legislation that grants them a pathway to citizenship.
Thank you for fighting for children,
