November/December 2022
As 2022 winds down, PRA is looking back at our highlights.

PRA diversified our media publishing this year, making our research accessible in myriad ways. We published three animations on Project Blitz, The America First Movement, and The Tanton Network. We launched our 101 explainer guides—-simplified, definitional resources on various right-wing movements of disproportionate influence. We published 101s on the Anti-LGBTQ Right, Far-Right Sheriffs, and Dominionism. Around the midterm elections, we published a map tracking the Electoral Far-Right, with in-depth analysis of what the Electoral Far-Right is, and what the wins and losses in their races mean for American democracy.

We launched our inaugural Inform Your Giving series, a political education series for donors to provide them with information about the Right that they might need in order to sharpen their giving strategies with the goal of blocking anti-democratic forces and building a more just and inclusive democracy.

Our webinar series returned this fall with roundtable discussions on sex education in a post-Roe world, and moving beyond the hate frame, based on PRA’s framework that deploys language other than “extremism” or “hate” in order to pinpoint the larger systemic forces at play in restricting rights. Stay tuned for part three of the series in the new year.

As we gear up for the next year, PRA would like to thank you, our supporters, for continuing to engage with our work. We look forward to bringing you more in 2023!

In solidarity,
The PRA Team
In Case You Missed It

PRA hosted an end of year celebration, Rooted in Resistance, where we recapped our success in blocking the Right in 2022.
UPDATE!
Our map tracking the Electoral Far Right has been updated to reflect the wins and losses of far-right candidates. The accompanying analysis explains the impacts of these races on American democracy.

The first anniversary of the Capitol storming is an occasion to take stock of the robust current state of America's insurrectionist, anti-democratic factions, those that would sooner dispense with democracy altogether than lose their hold on power.

In January, Chrissy Stroop produced the definitive argument on proselytizing and its moral implications. Are we all proselytizing all the time? How can we talk about this age old practice?

Charlie Kirk founded his group, Turning Point USA, with a focus on free markets and right-wing economics, but as the group's membership and donations grew, Kirk has pivoted to include a new position: a Christian nationalist one.

Throughout 2022, Katie Kelaidis published consistent insightful reporting on the war in Ukraine. She gave RD readers a closer look at the religious dimension to the war that might otherwise be missed by the media, including this piece from April 2022.

2022 saw even more mass shootings on a devastating scale; Thomas Lecaque wrote for RD on the disturbing ties between Christian nationalism and the continued arming of The United States.

The Christian Right is using a new tactic to deny the international right to abortion: sovereignty.

This fall, Fred Clarkson and Andre Gagné put together a series of explainers to help inform reporters covering the New Apostolic Reformation. This article kicked off the series, but parts 2 and 3 are must-reads as well.

This past year, the Right continued to push the bounds of acceptable political discourse, thanks in no small part to the work of pundits like Marjorie Taylor Greene. Annika Brockschmidt has produced incredible reporting as a watchdog of America’s slide toward fascism.
