John,
For far too long, corporate polluters have poisoned Black, brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities.
People in these “frontline communities” are suffering from high rates of asthma, cancer, and respiratory diseases. For example, Black Americans are 75% more likely to live near industrial polluting facilities than white people.1
Will you add your name to support public health over corporate greed?
Currently, regulators don’t take into account the amount of pollution a community already experiences when approving new polluting facilities, enabling environmental racism.
To counter this, Rep. Rashida Tlaib introduced the Cumulative Impacts Act to require the EPA to analyze the cumulative impacts of pollution when making permitting decisions. If passed, this would mean that the EPA would deny permits unless the applicant can demonstrate a reasonable certainty of no harm to the community or vulnerable groups.
This would be a major step forward for environmental justice.
Please add your name today to demonstrate your support for this important environmental justice legislation. Sign on as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Cumulative Impacts Act.
