On October 3, 2022, the Supreme Court heard the case of Sackett v. EPA, which revolves around which waterways deserve protections under the Clean Water Act. A few hundred people braved the cold and rain for a Protect Our Waters rally, to listen to speakers from Earthjustice, Green Latinos, the League of Conservation Voters and other organizations united in their demands that the justices do more to safeguard our nation’s waterways. The state of Utah is trying to shrink two national monuments

The state of Utah is leading on two lawsuits challenging President Biden’s restoration of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. The lawsuits also attack a bedrock law that protects some of the nation’s most vulnerable and sacred places. We’re stepping in alongside Tribes and other conservation groups to defend these monuments against these suits.

How the biodiversity crisis impacts us all

As world leaders at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference wrap up talks about plans to protect earth’s fragile ecosystem, Tim Preso, lead attorney for our biodiversity defense program, explains how increased threats could unravel the web of life that sustains so many species on this planet — including us.

A fossil fuel company wanted to dig up a Superfund site in Texas. Gulf communities fought back.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is considering a plan to dredge the Matagorda Bay shipping channel to allow oil tankers as long as football fields to pass through. The proposed project would stir up toxic mercury from a Superfund site and imperil the livelihoods of locals. After community uproar, the project has been halted so the Army Corps can conduct a proper environmental review.

Off the Texas and Louisiana coasts in the Gulf of Mexico, Earthjustice is challenging the proposed construction of four crude oil and gas export terminals, which would pose significant health and environmental risks for Gulf Coast communities. Tell the Biden administration: Protect Gulf Coast communities from dangerous fossil fuel projects.

Coming in 2023: Tax credits to electrify your home

Getting off fossil fuels — and saving money — just got a lot easier. If you’re looking to upgrade your home to be cleaner and more energy efficient, the federal government is offering some massive discounts starting in 2023 thanks to the newly enacted Inflation Reduction Act.
