Dear John,

My dream became possible because of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC). The team at NIJC helped me secure asylum here in the United States and now I feel more free to live my life.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you today, on International Migrants Day. To ask you to give your first gift to NIJC on this special day. Any gift you can give, no matter the size, makes a difference for someone just like me. Someone who had to leave behind their home in search of a safer life.

You can make your gift here: https://immigrantjustice.org/donate

In September, a judge in California finally recognized the fear and persecution I faced in Mexico because of who I am—a trans woman. It was a really hard time. A long eight-year battle. I spent two years of my life in immigration detention. But now, I have finally reached what exactly I have been fighting for. I could not have fought this battle without NIJC and my pro bono lawyers from Mayer Brown. Thank you to the whole complete team at NIJC.

And thank YOU! Because people like you care about those of us fighting for our rights, NIJC is here. You help make their work possible.

I hope from the bottom of my heart to every single one who's been in my situation: get asylum, or get something to be free, especially in this country.

People who are fighting for their rights deserve to have advocates like NIJC by our sides.

Will you please help? Give a gift to NIJC today in honor of International Migrants Day. Your donation will bring more hope than you can imagine.

You can give now at: https://immigrantjustice.org/donate

Thank you for listening and thank you again for the whole complete team at NIJC. All of you together changed my life and helped make my dream possible.

Warmly,

Gretta

P.S. When you give, I hope you will think of those whose dreams you can help come true. In return for your kindness on International Migrants Day, I wanted to share with you some of the artwork I was inspired to create during my battle to freely live my life.
