It's the Sun Belt--not the Rust Belt--that's going to determine the future of political power in our country.

Four key states in the Sun Belt: Texas, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina, are projected to pick up congressional seats and votes in the electoral college post-census. Republican-controlled state legislatures in these states have the opportunity to gerrymander over 90 congressional seats after the next elections and rig our democracy for a generation.

As our Roadmap 2020 ([link removed]) announced earlier this week: We're all in to win back power in these four key GOP-held state legislatures--the most powerful points of leverage that can fortify democracy for the decade ahead.

As I told Ronald Brownstein at The Atlantic ([link removed]), "It's hard not to be obsessed with the three states that tipped the election to Donald Trump, but it's also easy to be fighting the last war. I think our job right now is to sound the alarm that there is insufficient attention and focus and investment, particularly at the legislative level...in these Sun Belt states."

We're sounding the alarm. Democratic presidential candidates are raising millions, but the money is not showing up for these key state legislative races. We need your help to give Democrats a shot at winning back power before it's too late.

After their landslide victories in 2010, Republicans gerrymandered most of our state and federal maps--locking Democrats out of power and heralding a decade of extreme legislative agendas across the country. We cannot allow the same this decade with so many important issues like health care, gun control, and climate change on the line.

We can break the GOP's chokehold on power in 2020. As The Atlantic ([link removed]) explained about the 2018 elections, "Democrats' wins in suburban House races across the Sun Belt--as well as the results of the Senate contests in Texas, Arizona, and Nevada--showed clear cracks in the once-impregnable Republican dominance among white-collar Sun Belt voters."

Now's our moment to capitalize on those openings and recapture these key state legislative chambers. We only get one shot in 2020 or else Democrats will be locked out of power for the next decade.
