As the last statewide-elected Democrat in Ohio, I expect our race to be one of the most competitive and expensive in 2024 and one of the GOP’s biggest targets. (After all, Ohio’s last Senate contest was the fifth most expensive in the country, attracting over $202 million in spending.)
As I’ve been preparing for the road ahead of us, I’ve been thinking about the yellow canary pin I wear on my lapel.
My pin is a symbol of the coal miners who used to bring canaries into the mines with them to detect poisonous gas. If the bird died, they knew to clear out. They didn’t have a union strong enough or a government responsible enough to protect them. I wear the pin as a reminder of all we’ve done to empower workers. And all of the work that still needs to be done.
That’s what our movement is all about. No matter your background, your zip code, or what kind of work you do, your work has dignity and I will fight for you.
Of course, I don’t do this alone. In order to win, I need a strong base of support and that can only come from one place: you.
A monthly contribution -- say our average online contribution of $26 or even just $5 a month -- would help us prepare for the challenges that lay ahead.
Thank you again for your support and all you do for the values we share.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
