Breaking news in the fight to end the racist war on drugs, John!

Today US Attorney General Merrick Garland gave new instructions to federal prosecutors to stop treating crack and powder cocaine differently in criminal sentencing. This landmark move will finally halt the racist disparity created by the War on Drugs that treated 100 grams of powder cocaine the same as one gram of crack cocaine and disproportionately impacted Black and Brown communities.

This is what you and thousands of supporters have been fighting for. While we applaud this decision, it’s not enough. This decision can go away with one election. We need a lasting fix that will guarantee an end to racist disparities in our drug laws. That’s why the Senate must take action to make the EQUAL Act the law of the land.

John, this bill has bipartisan support and has already passed through the House. There’s still time for the Senate to take action and make the EQUAL Act law in 2022 – putting our nation on the path toward ending the war on drugs.
