Two members of Congress-elect and five state legislators-elect need to be investigated to determine if they meet the constitutional qualifications for office or are disqualified for engaging in insurrection.

If any of them are found to have engaged in insurrection, then they are disqualified from office under the 14th Amendment, and that means that Congress or their state legislatures must prevent them from being seated.

Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar intimidated officials responsible for processing the election results, embraced violent alt-right groups and advanced extra-legal efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

North Carolina State Rep. Donnie Loftis wrote in now-deleted social media posts that he was “gassed three times and was at the entrance when they breached the door.” He also appeared to have been close to individuals who used violence to gain access to the Capitol.

Unless their qualifications are challenged, these legislators-elect will be seated in just a few weeks, so it’s important that we spread the word and build momentum for investigations—and disqualification, if necessary.

Protecting our institutions from insurrectionists is not a simple fight. But it’s a fight we have to have, if we want a strong and secure democracy.
