John,

This year was a lot. More than 150 blatantly anti-trans bills were introduced across the country, most of them targeting our vulnerable trans youth. The Supreme Court made the devastating decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. Anti-trans legislators intensified their hateful rhetoric. Irreparable harm was committed against our community.

I'd love to believe that 2023 will be different, but the truth is that we know anti-trans legislators will continue their vicious attacks.

Still, I know when our community and allies join together, we are more powerful than our opposition.

As a result, NCTE was able to do some incredible things in 2023. Here are a few highlights:

* Our brand new Organizing Department provided on-the-ground support to advocates fighting for trans rights across the country, including in Utah, Texas, Georgia, and Florida.
* We worked with TSA to end airport security's use of gendered body scanners. Ending this traumatic practice improves the overall travel experience for trans people, and preserves our dignity and privacy.
* We relaunched the Protect Trans Health initiative, a national mobilization effort to support proposed changes to the Health Care Rights Law and protect trans people from discrimination and harm while seeking health care services.
* Our Policy Department worked with policymakers in New York, Hawaii, Minnesota, Kansas, and Pennsylvania on proposals to streamline state insurance coverage, improve health care transparency, and allow self-attestation or the option to remove gender markers from identity documents.
* We launched and fielded the 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey - the most comprehensive survey of trans experiences in the country - and heard from more than 100,000 trans adults and youth. NCTE will leverage this data when proposing important regulation changes, so policy decision-makers better understand the impact those changes will have on the lives of trans people.

As we look to 2023, there is still a lot to do. We know we'll see more attacks at the state level. Anti-trans rhetoric will ramp up as presidential candidates build their platforms. Trans youth will continue to have their rights challenged at every turn.

John, now is the time to join NCTE and NCTE Action Fund to defend trans rights. Make a year-end gift to NCTE Action Fund today.

I'll look forward to witnessing all of the incredible things our collective power will allow us to do together in 2023.

Hopefully,
