The Living New Deal is creating the first-ever interactive map and archive of all the New Deal built. So far, we’ve documented more than 17,500 unique sites—schools, post offices, government buildings, murals, parks, highways, bridges and more. We believe we’ve only just scratched the surface of what the New Deal left to America.
We’ve uncovered the New Deal’s imprint in cities, small towns and rural communities nationwide. These public works gave jobs and hope to millions during the Great Depression and still serve the public to this day, though their New Deal origins often go unrecognized.
Our website— livingnewdeal.org—is making visible the New Deal’s vast legacy. Our online programs, publications, tours and preservation efforts are revealing the spirit of public service that sparked a cultural, artistic, political and economic renaissance. (
A recent story about the Living New Deal on the PBS News Hour has also helped to open eyes!)
We believe the New Deal offers a model for our nation today. As we look to amplify the New Deal’s achievements in 2023—the 90th birthday of the New Deal—we humbly ask for your support. If you've already donated to the Living New Deal this year, we would be so honored to have your support once more as the year comes to a close.
