After persistent heat and drought, Australia has had one of their worst fire seasons in years. One hundred wildfires have burned in Australia since September 2019.
This is not a time for incremental change.

Nearly 20 million acres have burned across Australia, and authorities say the fires could keep burning for months.
At least 25 people have died, and entire communities have been forced to flee their homes. In one of the most unique ecosystems in the world, over 1 billion animals are feared dead.
When we talk about this campaign being a part of a movement for change, this is what we mean. The United States needs a Green New Deal. Australia needs a Green New Deal. The world needs a Green New Deal.
When the world is on fire, it is not enough to bring a watering can to the edges and call it a solution.

The United States should be leading the world on climate solutions. Instead, we’ve gone backwards. We have the fossil fuel industry and the politicians they pay for to thank for that.
A Green New Deal is the only option for our planet, but it is also a boon to our economy. We will create tens of thousands of jobs in clean and renewable energy with this effort, and Maine is poised to be at the epicenter of this economic growth.

Susan Collins has called a Green New Deal “unrealistic.” What Senator Collins is saying is that she doesn’t want to invest in a green economy. She doesn’t want Maine to lead the nation in both creating jobs and saving our planet. I say it’s time for her to go.
