It was incredible to watch the President sign the Respect for Marriage Act into law early this week and to celebrate marriage equality! Congressman Kim was also glad to speak with a lot of folks at his Telephone Town Hall Wednesday and looks forward to more conversations in the new year.

Congressman Kim Hosts 58th and Final Town Hall of 2022!

Congressman Kim hosted his 58th Town Hall on Wednesday, speaking with our neighbors about plans for the rest of the year and what to expect heading into the new year and new Congress. Thank you to everyone who tuned in and asked questions about healthcare access, broadband coverage, and more. We are grateful for opportunities to hear directly from you on different issues.

President Biden Signs Marriage Equality into Law

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law at the White House. Congressman Kim was proud to help pass the Respect for Marriage Act last week to enshrine marriage equality for same-sex and interracial couples, repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and provide additional legal protections for marriage equality. This is an historic and major step in upholding America’s promises of freedom and equality.

Congressman Kim Speaks Out Against Hate and Violent Extremism Threatening Communities

Last Friday, Congressman Kim joined the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office to help launch an initiative to rid the county of hurtful biases and hate crimes. The Congressman spoke at the event about the importance of standing against hate in all forms. Frank Meeink, a former white supremacist and now anti-neo Nazi public speaker, was the event’s keynote speaker to share his story about ridding himself and helping others see past the divisions of hate and racism.

Earlier this month, Congressman Kim was proud to join over 100 Members of Congress in sending a letter to President Biden demanding a national strategy to stop the rise in hate and violence against Jewish communities.

PACT Act Week of Action

Last weekend was the start of PACT Act Week of Action! The PACT Act is a newly enacted law that expands veteran healthcare benefits to those who were exposed to toxic substances during service. We want to make sure our local veterans know just how much it can do for them and their care! Get to know your benefits and please reach out with any questions.

What you Should Know About the Affordable Connectivity Program

Thanks to a helpful question at our Telephone Town Hall from a neighbor in Ocean County, we want to share more information about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). The federal benefit program helps households access affordable broadband with a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service.

You can find a comprehensive list of the income or household requirements online and apply via an online application!

Just this week we shared a story of a community member who came to us for help with their ACP application. We were able to help them re-apply with a new application that their internet provider accepted. If you have questions or need assistance with ACP, contact us!

Open Enrollment and Medicare Enrollment Reminder!

You can enroll for your 2023 healthcare coverage via healthcare.gov. On the marketplace, you can review different plans and find an affordable option that works for you. In New Jersey, open enrollment goes until January 31st. You can get started at Get Covered NJ.
