Fellow Democrat,

While Election Day 2022 definitely provided some surprises, none was more welcome than adding another Democrat to the Mendham Township Committee.

After successive campaigns of coming ever-so-close, Lauren Spirig finally broke through to join Amalia Duarte as the second Democrat serving Mendham Township.  She won on Election Night, and again after a recount requested by the losing Republican, Mendham Township's current Deputy Mayor, Tom Baio.

That is, unfortunately, where the good news ends and the bad news begins.

Instead of being gracious in defeat, and accepting the will of the voters of Mendham Township, Mr. Baio has decided to cry "fraud" - and to do so by coming after young voters in particular.  He intends to challenge the mail-in-ballots of 29 Mendham Township residents, voters largely between the ages of 21 and 30.

The Mendham Township Committee will be holding a special meeting THIS Tuesday, December 20th at 5 PM, and I plan to be there.  Not just to speak out against this blatant episode of election denialism, but to speak in support of the young Mendham Township voters Mr. Baio, Mendham Township Republicans, and Morris County Republicans have deemed "undesirable."

I'm asking you to join me, either in person or via Zoom, in support of the rights of ALL voters to participate in our democratic process.

Let's show Mr. Baio and his allies that, when you come for our vote, we rise up and fight back.

Sincerely,
T.C. McCourt
President, Morris County Young Democrats
