We did it! Thanks to your tireless efforts making phone calls, sending emails, posting to social media, and attending virtual and in-person meetings with the U.S. Congress, we have beat back the dirty deal for a THIRD time! In a Senate vote last night, Senator Manchin’s dirty permitting bill only acquired 47 of the 60 votes needed to add the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (see video of vote here). While we know permitting reform efforts are far from done, we can celebrate today with the reassurance that our grassroots power is a potent force for protecting our communities and safeguarding key environmental policies!

Hi, my name is ____. Since September, I’ve been following the permitting bill proposed by Senator Manchin aimed at gutting landmark environmental policies for the sake of fossil fuel buildout. He’s tried to pass this bill three times. Most recently, the Senate voted and YOU were one of the ten senators that stood up for environmental justice communities around the country by saying No. I’m calling to say thank you for your support and hearing our calls. We know this won’t be the last attempt to change environmental protection policies. We hope you will continue to take a stand and work with the EJ communities to craft policy that works for us all.
