We’re all feeling the effects of high prices on our everyday purchases—especially at the grocery store. One of my top priorities in Congress has always been to lower costs for families in our community, and on Thursday, I introduced new legislation in the House to help do just that.

My legislation, the Dairy Pricing Opportunity Act, will provide targeted support and stability for dairy farmers who are struggling, which will in turn help lower the cost of milk for families at the grocery store. New York State has a storied history of dairy production, and my legislation will help dairy farmers to carry on this proud legacy while also easing the financial burden on everyday consumers.

 Making Historic Advancements in Scientific Innovation 

This week, the United States Department of Energy announced the first-ever successful controlled fusion experiment—a major breakthrough in advancing our understanding of nuclear fusion and its limitless potential.

I am proud of the extraordinary work that went into this discovery, including supporting research done at our very own University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics. I congratulate the many scientists and engineers who contributed to this exciting achievement and whose work helps to spur job growth, strengthen our regional economy, and cement our place as a global leader in innovation. I look forward to continuing to support these exceptional scientific efforts for years to come.

 Supporting Critical Programs and Services in Our Community 

In 2021, I was proud to help pass the American Rescue Plan, a transformative piece of legislation that delivered historic resources for local governments. This week, County Executive Bello and the Monroe County legislature passed legislation to allocate these funds in creative ways that will benefit our entire community. County Executive Bello’s plan will help strengthen essential programs and services that families rely on every day, including resources for small businesses, support for veterans, care for seniors, job training, and more.

I’m deeply grateful for County Executive Bello’s leadership, partnership, and dedication to our community, and I look forward to our continued work together to uplift every family who calls Monroe County home.
