Dear neighbor,

This week, I was pleased to join incoming House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar for my first press conference as the new Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus. I’m excited to hit the ground running with this fantastic group of leaders as we focus on lower costs, better-paying jobs, and safer communities For the People.

While serving the broader House Democratic Caucus in this new capacity, the needs of my constituents in Los Angeles County will remain my top priority. As we head into 2023, I’d like to ask you – my constituents – what your top legislative priorities are. Please consider answering the poll question below.

What would you like Democratic leaders to focus on in the new Congress?

By submitting a response to this survey, you agree to be added to Rep. Lieu's e-mail list.

Here’s a look at what else I’ve been up to this week in Washington:

  • Applauded the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act, a crucial new law to protect same-sex and interracial marriages.
  • Led a bipartisan letter supporting the Biden Administration’s efforts to remove Iran from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. I’m pleased that Iran has now been removed from the commission.
  • Shared the news that my bill with Senator Feinstein to ensure easement funds generated at the West LA VA campus go toward housing homeless veterans was included in the annual defense package that will soon be signed into law.
  • Hosted a telephone town hall on Democratic accomplishments from the 117th Congress.
  • Urged the FDA to test fish and shellfish collected off the Southern California coast for DDT, a harmful pollutant that has been linked to an increase in cancer among sea lions.
  • Discussed my new role as Vice Chair and the importance of AAPI representation in politics on ABC 7 news.

As a reminder, the boundaries for congressional districts were redrawn following the 2020 Census, changing the geographical makeup of my district for the 118th Congress beginning in January.
