FTX Collapse
On Tuesday, my Republican colleagues and I on the House Financial Services Committee questioned the new FTX CEO, John Ray, about the details surrounding his company's collapse. This case of fraud was one of, if not the largest, in history. We, as Congress, need to protect American consumers, while also supporting an environment in which innovation flourishes.
My biggest question after the hearing was, why were our federal regulatory institutions unaware of the level of fraud occurring at FTX until the situation was in the public eye? You can listen to my comments in the Fox Business interview above.
A Pioneer for Prosperity
This week I was also honored to be given the “Pioneer for Prosperity” award by Americans for Prosperity. This award was given to members who demonstrated leadership and opposed reckless spending bills during the 117th Congress. Time and time again, the Democrats have chosen to bring inflationary spending bills to the floor, which I voted against, including the American Rescue Plan, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS Act. I will continue to vote in the best interest of America and our congressional district.
Ambassador of Guatemala
I also had a great introductory meeting with an ambassador from one of America's close friends and allies, Guatemala. Ambassador Alfonso Quinonez was insightful and friendly. He and his country share similar conservative values that we cherish in the great State of Texas.
During the meeting, we discussed several issues of importance, including bilateral relations with the United States of America and the struggles our countries share concerning border security and immigration.
This was a fruitful conversation, and I am looking forward to tackling our countries' shared interests in the future.
Sincerely, |
